Budding painter and TAFE SA visual arts graduate, Sophie Clarke, has been announced as a finalist in the prestigious Waterhouse Natural History Art Prize.
The 17 year old animal lover has been chosen as one of the ten finalists in the youth category for her painting of a Snowy Owl.
Sophie will attend a gala night at the South Australian Museum this moth where the winners of the nation’s richest natural history art prize will be announced.
If selected as the first place winner in her category, Sophie will receive $4000, which she hopes to use for a trip to her home country – England.
“I’m massively environmental and I want to use my work to focus on that too,” she said “I like classic techniques but I also like to experiment with mediums and textures.”
Sophie is a graduate of the Certificate IV in Painting offered at TAFE SA Mount Gambier Campus. She aims to continue her art studies and base herself in the Mount Gambier region in the future.
This year’s finalists’ artworks will be displayed at the SA Museum from July 17 until 5 September.
