Margot Fonteyn with Robin Haig
Acclaimed Australian ballet dancer Robin Haig will be performing her delightful one-woman show, Backstage with Margot Fonteyn and the Bumptious Colonial, at TAFE SA’s Adelaide College of the Arts during April.
Robin has also been invited by the Helpmann Academy for the Visual & Performing Arts to conduct a dance master-class at the Adelaide College of the Arts.
Robin Haig’s career in ballet has been an extraordinary one, including performances with dance legends Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev.
Born in Perth in 1937, Robin began dancing at an early age, and at 17 she won a Royal Academy of Dancing scholarship and completed her training in London at the Royal Ballet School.
She has danced with the Australian Theatre Ballet, the Royal Ballet, London Ballet, Western Theatre Ballet, Scottish Ballet, the Australian Ballet and the West Australian Ballet. Robin directed the West Australian Ballet for two years from 1977 to 1979, before moving to the United States in 1981.
Backstage with Margot Fonteyn and the Bumptious Colonial is a unique performance, offering a behind-the-scenes look into the fascinating career of Margot Fonteyn and Robin Haig, whose own career was often interwoven with that of her idol. This staged memoir combines storytelling, dance, music, slides and film, exploring Fonteyn's genius as a person and an artist.
Prior to her performance, Robin will also be conducting a dance master-class at the Adelaide College of the Arts on Tuesday April 13. This ballet master-class is suitable for all those studying ballet dancing at intermediate level and above.
