Make costumes; construct costume components; work effectively in a costume studio; participate in OHS processes; dress performers; modify, repair, maintain costume; apply art finishing; make costumes for dance and physical theatre; create theatrical millinery; construct hard and soft costume accessories; create patterns from block to meet customer specifications; use sewing machine; sew components; develop patterns from a block using basic pattern making principles; draw and interpret a basic sketch; analyse individual fit and make pattern alterations; plus modify patterns to create basic styles.

Diploma of Costume for Performance
Collaborate in a creative industry; coordinate costume manufacture; work effectively in a costume studio; ensure a safe workplace; make period costumes; make character costumes; make costumes for dance and physical theatre; create theatrical millinery; make costumes; design and construct costume corsetry and undergarments; realise costume; make presentation; construct costume components; organise and monitor bump in/bump out; analyse individual fit and make pattern alterations; plus modify patterns to create basic styles.

Minimum Entry Requirements

Award Courses - SATAC application process

Any one of:
  • Satisfactory completion of SACE Stage 2 (or equivalent)
  • Any Certificate III
  • Satisfactory achievement in the TAFE SA Assessment of Basic Skills (TABS)

Expected Employment Outcome Example

The sector covers the design and production of women’s, men’s and children’s apparel across, sports, formal, tailored, casual and bridal market areas. In fashion courses, the main business activity focuses on product design and development, technology and garment production. Footwear courses cover design and production, as well as giving students the skills and knowledge needed to operate within a business producing custom-made footwear. Graduates have the opportunity to work in the fashion and footwear design industries as designers, pattern makers, sample makers, product developers, CAD operators, production assistants/managers or stylists.
